Serenity
This is my newest creation. I feel somewhat uncomfortable posting this because there are so many errors I can pick out. It’s unbelievable how difficult it is to appreciate these simply for what they are. I made this for my NA sponsor who had her 6th birthday yesterday. On the lower left is the Serenity Prayer - that was my favorite part. Not doing faces is so enjoyable! I re-did this face at least 20 times… no exaggeration. I’ve got witnesses!
But the hair. OMG. The hair! It’s so 1980s! It just kept getting bigger and bigger. I wanted to re-do the hair, but I had a deadline and throughout making this, I came to accept it wouldn’t be perfect and that’s okay. I could pick this one apart all day long, but am really trying to not be so critical of myself. So, I’m biting my tongue. (fingers)
Drawing & painting the face is very intimidating, VERY. But I got these new oil paintsticks, so hopefully they’ll add to the fun & take away from the pressure. (I haven’t used them yet)
What do I like about this one? I like that the paint I applied with a brayer naturally created shapes that I could use. The white kind of represents “awareness.” I really like how the Serenity Prayer came out. The background reminds me of a 10 Commandments tablet. Applying the gold leaf was interesting & much simpler than I’d anticipated. I like the face, the hands, black charcoal around the skirt & middle, and her dress. That may sound like I like it all, but don’t be fooled.
I think I need therapy now. Or maybe this was therapy!

We’re always hardest on ourselves. I really like it. I can’t think of the painter off the top of my head, but it reminds me of the style of one of the Impressionist painters.

I love this, it’s (you’re) awesome! You need to keep a copy of the serenity prayer close to you when you’re painting…
Beautiful Jane…just beautiful!

Cheesy, You’re right, it’s really hard for me to relax & enjoy what I create. I enjoy the process, it’s very relaxing for me.
Tug, Thank you tremendously!
